Is there anything better than hiding behind a good set of frames?
Horn-rimmed, browline, Lennon-inspired or Harry Potter-esque - nothing classes up nerd like a unique pair of glasses (though I'm quite certain nerds themselves would much prefer the latest TI-model to a fancy eyewear upgrade).
I think it was Arthur [the Aardvark] that first inspired my foray into four-eyes. Him or Gretchen from Recess.
Yea. That's evident.
Anyhow. Now with Zooey Deschanel and all of her quirky kindred, "nerdy" is the new norm, and the negative connotations of the word itself are being seriously called into question.
As if it were ever uncool to love school.
Nonetheless, nowadays the most forthright proponents of the trend seem to be those who once shirked it at all costs. I realize it goes without saying - but the lens is in, people. What that says about our sentiments towards society and our desire to engage with it, though, I'm not quite certain.
I advocate, however, that it's time for some new initiation criteria for those of us set on entering geekdom for real.
Origins behind the name "Gollum", anyone?
