Actually, "peeked in" doesn't really cover the five or so double-takes, back tracks and unavoidable glass window face-plants that the shoe-filled store windows induced.
Owned by Jeanette Riechers, the same woman who owns Madison Sole on State Street, Cornblooms offers an impressive array of footwear. Though managers Brenda and Zoe told me that the store began with a "Birkenstock aesthetic" (which is, by the way, how I will describe my style from this point on) it has definitely evolved into something entirely unique.
It still stocks up on comfort brands like Dansko and Keen and staples from my favorites like Frye, Birkenstock, Hunter Wellington and Sperry Top-Sider, but also features fashion brands like Antelope, All Black, Neosens and Cydwoq.
I was blown away by the truly eclectic designs, even from well-known brands.
Also shocking?
The level of authentic enthusiasm displayed by buyer Brenda and manager Zoe. In fact, though difficult for me to admit, their passion for Frye may in fact rival mine.

The store is incredibly fun to roam through - and I'm always inspired to push the boundaries of my style. Zebra fur? Bring it on. Peacock slip-ons? Heck yes.
So give your toes something to talk about, and cover them in something cool from Cornblooms. (Sorry. Can't help myself. Alliteration is alluring).
Cornblooms is located in Hilldale Shopping Center, on Bus Route 2.

You can check out their Facebook page here, and a great comprehensive Madison Magazine article on the store here.
Fun shoe fact: Shoe store buyers tend to purchase platform shoes in smaller sizes, because more short people than tall people wear platform shoes!
(OK, possibly self-evident, but I thought it was interesting!)
Cheers.
great post!!

ReplyDeleteHehe, and I love the zebra fur loafers - though I'm not quite sure if I'm eclectic enough to execute an appropriate outfit with them without appearing too manic...would love to see how you would style them!
Thank you again for making my day and I hope you have the most beautiful week!
