Typically, when I'm getting dressed, I like to try to balance out my eccentric style with some sort of socially acceptable fare.
A little attempt at normality, if you will,
A little attempt at normality, if you will,
even should my instincts drive me toward a full-on sensual assault.
You know - opting for basic tees with strangely-printed bottoms, neutrals with brights, simple silhouettes with flamboyant shapes - one thing to essentially tone down the other.
I'm convinced that this is a product of my Midwestern-upbringing.
Anything to blend in - to avoid making people uncomfortable
Anything to blend in - to avoid making people uncomfortable
(because believe me, my cardboard hobbits more than do the trick).
Today, though, I threw normalcy to the wind and embraced the strangeness that is my true self.

Taking inspiration from the lovably-weird women above, I refused to stop at Waldo stripes.
Instead, I went all out - threw on my new favorite pair of sense-shocking pants and - yes, real specks - to round out (pun intended) the 100% Gabby look.

Let me just say, though, that should you desire to attempt this look in a non-New York state, be prepared for one or two or 5,000 poorly-disguised glances your way.
Yet, oddly enough, I've never felt so at ease. Proving that "weird" is relative, and comfort is an endemically-summoned sentiment.
Until you run into your boss, that is.
At which point weird is just weird.
Cheers.

I LOVE this outfit. Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the lovely comment. I, too, am a weirdo in a non-NY state, and regularly receive scores of points and stares and the occasional all-out laughing fit at my style. As for the "high street" conundrum, I live in the US, and have never been to the UK, so I"m not sure why my vocab is peppered with so many EU terms (probably the internet). Nonetheless, "fast fashion" sounds like a good alternative to me. I've heard it before, just never knew if it was supposed to be used by consumers, i.e. outside of the business world of fashion. Thanks for the tip, thanks again for the comment, and you have a new follower for your blog ;)
ReplyDeleteWonderful look overall..a truly "gabby" look!! Amazing pants and shirt! If I am not wrong you wore a yellow coloured watch also!!!
