My birthday present to myself was to check out the Balenciaga exhibit at La Cité de la Mode.
The docks here are home to the French Fashion Institute and super cool events like this melange of a showroom.
Vintage Balenciaga pieces from the mid 20th century, alongside family heirlooms from the Balenciaga crew themselves.
I have never wanted to own a time machine so badly.
I mean, a mullet visor?!? The pinnacle of sartorial impracticality can do no wrong in my eyes. Unless of course, they've been seared by the sun from which my upper back was so artfully protected.
And obviously, the mullet is back.
Or was back.
Or is out.
Or...
So much for avante garde.
Anyhow. Aside from proving that visors, peplum and asymmetrical hems continue to be relevant despite their "trend" titles, the exhibit really hammered home that inspiration is hardly intangible.
Unfortunately, the clothing usually is.
Hello broke college graduate.
Cheers.
love it! the blk one is my fave

AH! I'm gushing over the pieces that make me think of having to skillfully navigate the cobblestones streets in heels, being careful not to trip over the long, full skirt of my corseted dress. Parasol in hand and a fabulously grand hat on my chignon adorned head. Ahhhh... If you come across that time machine let me know - I'll pop back with you for a day or two!!
