What do real people do come fall?
Believe it or not, the average human does not get to spend it gallivanting from one country's fashion week to the next.
Not that such a lifestyle wouldn't be ideal, of course.
But the sad (or just neutral) fact of the matter is that my autumnal bliss comes from a much less elegant place than that of Ms. Wintour or Mr. Lagerfeld.
True, leather and suede may play just as large of a role in my fall lifestyle as they do on the A/W runways,
but usually in a much less pristine form.
Actually, to be completely honest - I'm finding myself uncharacteristically unenthused for this year's change in season.
The drop in temperatures means more layering - i.e. more weird - so I'm usually thrilled,
but after growing accustom to the flimsy tees and high-waisted silhouettes of summer, the chunkiness of my limited cold-weather clothing is proving rather stifling.
So for now, I'll focus on the foliage, and leave the styling up to whatever degree of weirdness that my local Goodwill can sustain.
Because as much as I wish that I could be wearing the latest Wang creation or strange Helmut Lang faux fur extravaganza...
the entire cow that I'm wearing on my back sort of suits my current humble surroundings for now - wouldn't you say?
And there's nothing worse than an overdressed hiker.
(Meredith in Parent Trap, anyone?)
So cheers to enjoying fall for more than just it's fashion.
And to these boots.
I give up.
I'll never be earthy.
Cheers.
I usually kinda hate fall – well, not hate, but I do despise its warning of impending winter – but I'm feeling a bit more optimistic this year than others.
ReplyDeleteThat jacket is amazing – I really love the detail at the cuffs. Vintage find?
Sea and Swank
that is some beautiful nature photography and that jacket is amazing and so thick i bet you won't even notice fall! i've been living in la for the summer and it's been 90 degrees every single day, which i LOVE don't get me wrong, but it's making me miss the little bits of fall that i love and making me excited to get back to new york next month. autumn mix just doesn't taste as good when the leaves aren't changing color, the air doesn't smell as crisp, and you can carve pumpkins in cut offs!
