Look Sharp, Sconnie - Midwestern Fashion Nerd, Chronic Over-thinker

See-Through: Sophisticated or Slu -- not.?

All of the skin-bearing get-ups at fashion week got me interested in the line between classy and trashy.
What makes one outfit upscale, when the same thing worn by someone else is embarrassing?

I have a feeling that the answer lies somewhere at the intersection of body type, situational context, brand of clothing,
and overall chutzpah of the person in question.

For example, Snooki, in the following ensemble, would be...
Snooki. In the above ensemble.
And not the gorgeously elegant woman you see before you.

Just like how myself in the below ensemble would be...
awkward. Just really really awkward. The complete opposite of Taylor here (who was seriously really really cool) - thank god.

I guess, then, that having personal style is sort of about having the ability to take potentially awkward pieces and make them work, baby.

Agree? Disagree? Don't care? Love bears?

Cheers.

PS: Naughty Mess's Chloe was seriously the nicest person in the world. Which obviously makes me like her blog even more.

PSS: So was Taylor. She's got a new show coming out on Oxygen soon too - so heads up for that.

so I totally support the see through look for those who can pull it off but I don't think I could ever EVER do it myself.

I dunno, Gaby, I've seen you rock some pretty traditionally unrockable things in insane ways. I could see you doing a sheer American Apparel button up for sure.

i think that the trick is not wearing anything that makes you feel awkward. i think that it's super important to wear pieces that make you feel amazing. and if that happens to be see through or cut outs a la chloe or taylor or skin tight and thigh grazing a la anna dello russo then even better! at the end of the day if you don't feel amazing in what you're wearing you won't look amazing in it. it's science.

Yeah. Who doesn't Snookie have stumped? And your'e right - it's all about what makes you comfortable. It's so weird that we can literally like see someone's level of comfort. Isn't that strange? It's fairly unfakeable.
