Look Sharp, Sconnie - Midwestern Fashion Nerd, Chronic Over-thinker

Hats on.

I'm so torn on hats.
One minute I'm in love, and the next I'm stuffing them in some drawer due to lack of wearability.

It's so hard for me to don one without perpetually feel like I'm trying too hard.
Something about making that additional decision to plop the topper on my head often makes me uneasy - almost like I have to defend my decision to put it on or to prove that I'm doing it seriously.
In fact, as I sit here browsing the "Fall Hats" slideshow on "Who What Wear", I don't feel as if I'm the only one.
Something about the expressions of so many of the women seem as if they're challenging the camera - as if they're saying "I dare you to comment on my blatantly masculine accessory choice".

And could that be it?

Do you think that there might be a difference between the way a woman feels in a masculine hat versus a feminine one?

I know that for me, my demeanor morphs from defensive to demure with the switch in sartorial sexuality,
but could that be because I'm not entirely comfortable with the accessory in the first place?
For me, it's always a bit of a costume, so naturally I always going to feel as if I'm playing a sort of role.
But what if you feel that like, say, a bolero, is an extension of your personality?
Does your attitude change (like mine above), or are you suddenly more yourself than ever before?
hat: Urban Outfitters, shoes: UO (on sale in stores), jacket: Vera Pelle, pants: Cheap Monday
Is anything I'm saying making sense?

If not, just look at the shoes.
Pretty neato, no?

Cheers.

Afterthought: I promise I'm clean. Why my eyes are failing to open is something I'm committed to investigating.

first off you look amazing in these photos, love how fall looks on you! and you've inspired me to relaunch my quest for the perfect caramel leather jacket after a long hiatus. you've also perfectly captured my feeling on hats. i always go to put one on and then feel like i'm wearing a costume and end up getting uncomfortable and taking it off. i do that with any questionable fashion decision i make and when i'm walking down the street instead of owning it i'm like oh my god everyone is making fut of my hat! truth be told, it's only me but it's why it's so hard to wear things your not totally comfortable with and it's probably what sets the trend makers apart from the followers. so hats off to you (ha!) for making this look amazing!

I think the hat works really well on you! I've been on the hunt for a good fall hat but I know what you mean about how it's hard to wear one without feeling like you're trying to hard. You pull this off naturally though!

This hat looks great on you - it might not be a particularly 'feminine' item, but you make it work. I go through phases with hat - I love them, but I think it takes some serious bravado to pull one off. Also hats indoors? Always a tricky one. xx

i LOVE hats, they are actually a life-saver for moms! And i think you should wear hats more often.....they look more non-chalant on you than you think :)
