I'm so down...

This week, during an especially boring (i.e. important) work meeting on the importance of appropriate employee behavior,
I found my mind wandering around to the notion of "down to earthiness".
"How down to earth am I?", I thought responsibly,
as I sat there in my homely midwestern office attire amongst colleagues unphased by fleeting fashion trends, Oscar gowns, and bawdy statement jewelry.

Then I realized, to my disappointment, that my being 'down to earth' was nowhere near as flattering as say, Jennifer Lawrence's being graced by the same description.

But why?
Why are celebrities who act average admirable, but average people who act average just...average?

In fact, I'd even venture to say that the non-famous, everyday American actually suffers from the very same approachability that makes certain stars so damn enviable.
Unless you've been deemed by some higher power (Hollywood Foreign Press, Vogue, not your mom, etc, etc) to be worthy of being put on a pedestal,
blatantly avoiding said pedestal can actually prove detrimental

I mean, isn't that where they get the phrase "fake it 'till you make it"? You've got to pretend like you're a big deal, until you are, at which point you're expected to vehemently insist that you're not.

So, I've decided that until I'm rich, famous, adored, worshipped, rich, world-renowned, rich, glorified, rich and rich,
I'll just blindly power on pretending that I'm obviously immensely popular and relevant and all things positive.
And when I finally am all of those things - I'll go on Chelsea Lately and quip in a deep, raspy, down to earth chuckle about how silly you all were to assume that I was any different from your all-American selves.
pants: HandM (very similarhere & here) , top: ASOS (similar) (super cool one), shoes: Nine West, watch: La Mer
I obviously have way too much mental free time.

Cheers.

PS: If you see this, I need your sageness...
Do you prefer le picturoonies to be the size they are today, or the size they were yesterday?

  1. I love this. It's rather true, although I'm not a American, just a little blonde Brit, I get what you mean and do agree!! On the other hand, these images are brilliant and I personally like them a bit bigger as without my glasses on at the moment and I am squinting a little!

You look fab though.. you should have more 'important' meetings if it gets your brain working like this!!! :)

  3. I totally agree with the sentiment, but I think that you can be both extraordinary and "down to earth" without compromising one or the other, celeb or not! so glad I came across your blog, I think the photos look nice larger, like in your post below :) xx

  5. I just don't know how you fathom photo taking in this frigid Wisconsin winter. You are a brave woman! But I can see how it's worth it when you're wearing an awesome outfit like this one. (sometimes I risk getting a cold, too, just to get a great shot. lol)

As far as photos go, this size is much more pleasing to the eye. The other photos were too big and feel right off the page.
