Lately, I've been trying to take it easy on the blog-reading.
(never fear, folks, read on...)
(never fear, folks, read on...)
I know, I know. It won't work.
But it's worth a shot.
But it's worth a shot.
And why, you might ask, am I choosing to shun the very same inspiration that I once found so compelling?
Well, first of all, the hours spent scrolling through the work of others has gotten me neglecting my own. This may, I admit, be a symptom of the (below) freezing temperatures, as it's much more convenient to remain indoors curled up next to my space heater with the only conscious movement being that of my two right hand fingers rhythmically caressing the scroll bar.
But my extreme laziness is really only half of the story.
I love a good inspiration post - I do. And sometimes, mimicking others is the perfect way to incite the courage needed to step outside of my comfort zone - to explore new territory, if you will.
Yet there's a fine line between piggy backing and just riding that horse all the way into town.
And lately, I'm finding that the very same laziness behind my luxurious 4 hour Saturday naps is prompting an unhealthy utilization of the creativity of others.
So, obviously I won't stop reading blogs.
Because that would take self-restraint, and we all know my sentiments on that.
[Not to mention that there are some seriously awesome blogs.]

But I will attempt to follow my own strange heart a little bit more often.
I miss the outfits I used to put together back in high school - layers upon layers of synthetic fabrics hidden beneath hippie-esque unkempt hair.

This post, in fact, is an ode to my high school self.
The self that wouldn't have thought twice about wearing a faux fur Russian hat around her Midwestern town, let alone devote a 50,000 paragraph blog post to it.

hat ("Cossack"): Banana Republic (similar under 'accessories' & free ship :) ), sweater: Anthropologie (sorta similar), jacket: Rome(similar), pants: Urban Outfitters, boots: Anthropologie (inspired by these) |
So, here's to weirdness, wonder, and wonderfully strange winter attire.
Cheers.
Cheers to weirdness and wonder :) and I'm so jealous.... I haven't had time to take a nap since I was pregnant 2 years ago!

Well, I for one, am loving your self-inspired look! I totally get what you mean - there are so many bloggers who seem to dress the same, it is nice to see someone else taking their own style path!

Love the fur hat. I have one of my own in white. There has to be some reason we put up with Wisconsin Winters :)

i had this whole awesome response to this post and I tried to write it through my phone and it deleted everything. the bottom line is I love dressing weird and being weird. sticking out like a sore thumb has always been my thing and no the more people who look at me strangely or make fun of clothes just makes me want to be that much out there.
