Sweatshirts and skirts have been de rigeur for a while now, but Givenchy's F/W collection (show yesterday in Paris) was a mind-blowingly original iteration.
Not only did Riccardo Tisci invent a strange new sartorial form that I will refer to from here on out as the
'torso jacket' (stomach skirt, mid-section snuggie, etc, etc), but he made it look as if it had existed for ages.
'torso jacket' (stomach skirt, mid-section snuggie, etc, etc), but he made it look as if it had existed for ages.
By throwing these over shirts and skirts, he managed to one-up "the belt" with an innovation that I'm quite certain must now absorb the former wardrobe staple entirely.
More warmth, more texture, more styling potential ... more more more.
And when it comes to clothes and fabric, we all know how I feel about more.
Survival of the bulkiest.
Except when it comes to the skirts.
Here, I confess, less is admittedly so.fantastically.much.more.
What is it about this should-be-tired-but-most-certainly-isn't sweatshirt/skirt combo that feels so incredibly fresh??
Is it the shockingly stark contrast created by single nearly-nude piece? The mermaid silhouette? The intricate details? Maybe it's the way the eye-catchingly empty space is framed and balanced by the heavy color-coordinated bottom.
Either way. It's breathtaking.
And I realize pencil skirts and plaid are like, so last blog post,
but srsly-
This is the stuff midwestern leather-loving girls' dreams are made of.
In fact, the outfit above on the bottom right might very well sum up my ideal personal style better than any I've yet seen this fashion season.
It's so good, I'm even considering a shaved and died hair do to round it out. No?
And to make things even worse (read: better), Tisci started off the whole shebang with a little Disney.

| Side (/bottom) note: I'm pretty sure the belts here are identical to the tow rope I have stashed in the back of my Honda in case of emergencies. |
Once again, my inability to fully commit to hoarding comes back to bite me in the rear.
Can't wait 'till all my crappy Gap sweatshirts and overpriced abercrombie thermals come back in style.
Ima be all over that one.
Thoughts?

Is it sad that I would literally wear every single one of these looks?!!
