Almost as much as the mom-esque-tie-shirt-around-waist phenomenon.
I can't quite figure out where we draw the line between oblivious bystander and self-conscious trend follower.
What differentiates the stylistically apathetic mom in ragged old Nikes from the overtly self-aware blogger wearing the very same?
What differentiates the stylistically apathetic mom in ragged old Nikes from the overtly self-aware blogger wearing the very same?
Is the self-awareness visible? Is it obvious that I care about the color-coordination of my workout shorts with the shirt around my waist, or is their something else that gives me away?
Maybe it comes down to the specific iteration of the trend. Is Adidas in, but Puma out? Does a blank canvas baseball cap connote something that a [insert sports team name here] one cannot?
If you saw me walking down the street in this getup, would you assume that I was a sorrily unawares post-workout "victim", or would you be able to tell that I vigilantly considered the irony of this ensemble in advance?

Is it only the fact that I've photographed and subsequently over-analyzed this look that makes it [an attempt at being] stylish, or is there something in my expression that reveals the citation to this look's much less cool predecessors (i.e. my 3rd grade wardrobe).
I'm certainly co-opting enough "blogger" trends here to make myself sufficiently obnoxious, that's for sure.
..
Baseball cap, athletic shorts, shirt tied 'round waist....
I'd be more ashamed of my lack of originality if
I weren't so damn comfortable.
Cheers.
Some trends I just can't follow and a lot of these are those trends lol. However, when it comes to fashion I'm really all about comfort. It's why I now wear some version of a sneaker with almost every outfit...
ReplyDeleteI don't quite know whether or not I can follow them either. I can certainly play dress up with the best of them, though.
Delete(though I am OBSESSED w tying shit around my waist. #NoMoreBelts)
well i have to say i often have these same thoughts when looking at (clueless) moms at the playground (i feel bad for even saying that) but there are so many cray cray trends right now it is getting a little harder to tell if someone is wearing something to be "trendy" or because they don't have a clue hahahahaah but I'll tell you what, i am LOVING every minute of it!
