Over the last 3 years,
I've slowly internalized the notion that wearing anything except studs on my ears is uncool.
The sentiment came as a shock.
After waiting until 17 to get my ears pierced, I was kind of like that repressed teenager who goes psycho upon entering college.
Out. of. control.
I suddenly started buying earrings compulsively. And naturally only of the most obnoxious sort.
Dangly, giant hoops, fossilized leaves and painfully heavy white shells - anything .... just so long as it would be guaranteed to immediately identify me as a scraggly hippie.
Then, to my horror -
college, leggings, oversized tees, and the overall idea of "effortless cool" infiltrated my psyche,
and dangling large works of art from my ears suddenly seemed so....
desperate.
Like I was looking for attention.
So, despite my affinity for earwear (not worms. bleh), I temporarily denied my obsession in the name of "cool"...
a mistake I'll never make again.

And even though I realize that the whole heavy head extremities thing is suddenly back "in" again,
I'm hoping that even when it's not, I'll still stick to my proverbial guns.
Because, though it might seem "desperate",
is there really anything easier than throwing on a pair of earrings (/faux chrome vine) to make an instant wee statement?
Cheers.
this is the great thing about statement jewelry, it can really let you off the hook when you're feeling too lazy to concoct an outfit. you can wear the same black dress all week long and change up your earrings and necklace and no one will notice. they'll all be too busy being in awe of your poison ivy chic with the amazing vines winding their way around your ears. what's more effortless than that?

I think it's brilliant and much more attention grabbing than "normal" earrings. :D
ReplyDeleteI wasn't allowed to pierce my ears when I was younger. I gave up fighting about it as a teen. Now, after all of these years, I still don't have pierced ears. Haha. It seemed like a huge deal to me way back when, but I don't even think about it now. :P <3
Anyway, I ended up getting a huge tattoo on my back after grad school to make up for it. My parents didn't like it, but I haven't lived with them in 10+ years. So, yeah. Deal with it, dudes. :P
