Look Sharp, Sconnie - Midwestern Fashion Nerd, Chronic Over-thinker

Letting Your Weird Shine Through.

I'm really really good at 2 things.
(ok, maybe 3, but we'll leave out my eerily spot-on Smeagol impression for the time being)
One: Not knowing what I'm talking about
and Two:
Pretending like I know what I'm talking about.

Luckily, occasions upon which the second proves necessary rarely occur.
Unluckily, rarely is not never, and every once in a while I am in fact forced to make a definite statement  about something that is not definite at all.
In my humble-ish opinion, fashion is entirely subjective. What works on one person, may not work on another, regardless of whether it's "in" or not.
In fact, to be honest, I don't think I fully grasped the meaning of the word "trend" until my second or third year in college. Until that point, I'd pretty much only dressed up in whatever I liked - fully unawares of any sort of outfit "logic". The notion that there were certain items that I should like took a while to sink in.

And by "a while" I mean
it never did.

That being said, I can hardly shun all current fashions in favor of my own weirdness - especially when I do wee bits on the news about what to wear.

So what's a contentedly oblivious girl to do?

Well,
as I like to say,
when all else fails,
wear a magic carpet around your waist!
In all seriousness though,
how fun would it be to go on a real magic carpet ride ??

Fine fine.
Fer realz, fer realz.
The point of my whole introductory spiel was to illustrate the fact that,
yes,
monochrome is definitely "in",
and my wonderfully mirrored shirt and shoes demonstrate that quite clearly.
shirt: walgreens, skirt: Anthropologie, shoes: Tibi
But letting my strangeness shine through is priority #Uno,
thus I bring you this skirt.

A weird wonder if there ever was one.

Makes me wonder though, how do you strike a balance between trying new appealing "trends" and sticking to your instinctive sartorial guns? Is it one of those things that comes naturally? Or does it require a lot of thought?

Cheers.

love this outfit. it's like aladdin meets the sandlot in all the right ways. i think that when it comes to trends it's important to realize when you're wearing the trend and when it's wearing you. like in these pictures you're not just blindly following the monochramatic trend you saw mentioned in a magazine, you've perfectly incorporated it into your own wardrobe and given it your own spin. it's when nothing about the trends you're wearing is your own and your outfits start to look a little thought out in all the wrong ways.
