Look Sharp, Sconnie - Midwestern Fashion Nerd, Chronic Over-thinker

Juxtaposing questions.

Friends, lovers,
people of whom I do not yet, but desire deeply, to know:
Guess what?

I like dresses now.

Don't know why exactly, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that I really like clashing and ... well, there's nothing easier to clash with than a dress.
Am I right?

In fact, 99% of my wardrobe is too casual to be worn with a classic dress - -
which is to say,
it's perfect.
See, something in my pea-sized brain once told me that dresses were only for the unfashionable. That they were "too easy" to be cool, too boring to be artsy.
That only the most uncreative amongst us needed the simplicity of dresses to do the work.

But today we smash that little theory into shards by wearing the dress of a kindergarten teacher with chunky ankle boots and a dirty shirt tied around our waist.
Dirty? Who said anything about dirty? Not me.

Anyhow, I find this little case study quite interesting.
I know, I know:  "juxtaposition" is THE thing to do . . . but why?? What do you think it is that makes jeans with heels, dresses with combat boots, and trousers with crop tops so appealing?

Is it the ability to be two people at once?

Is it the urge to defy expectations?
dress: MinkPink (similar), boots: Jeffrey Campbell, shirt: Anthropologie, necklace: vintage
And what happens when "juxtaposition" itself becomes, well...uniform. Will thematic matching be the new clashing?

Cheers.

I love me some juxtaposition! It's interesting and unexpected and takes a certain confidence to pull it off without looking uncomfortable. And, of course, you pull it off so well!

PS. Love the shirt tied around the waist. The 90's are coming for us!

i love what's happening in these photos between that printed dress, those ankle boots, and that shirt around your waist. it's funny because i've always loved dresses for the exact reason you've been avoiding them. i think that because they're so seemingly simple and straight forward you have to work a little harder to really make it your own and add your own touches to them to make you stand out. and this is a prime example of that done right. and gorgeous i might add. get out of here with that first picture and get that mega watt smile into a glossy magazine already!!

This is great! I freakin LOVE a pretty dress with functional boots - but I see what you mean about maybe it's becoming expected, almost like wearing a pretty dress with heeled sandals and diamonds is the juxtaposition!!? In any case I am loving this look in you.
