I own a lot of stuff.
But nothing compares to what I found at Iona.

(sorry guys, the pun was too good. I couldn't resist).
Helmut Lang, Theyskins' Theory, A.L.C., MOTHER, and a bunch of other slobber-worthy brands about which I didn't know, but wish that I had, so that I could have sounded reasonably knowledgeable and cool prior to my visit.
And now they're all found in, you guessed it - - WISCONSIN!
That's right, New York: Watch out, the cows are coming for you.
Seriously, though - this place is insane.
The owner, Pamela, has this out-of-control amazing taste (True, it's possible that I'm asserting this because her taste is eerily similar to mine, but it's also legitimately out-of-control amazing - so......there.)
Every item in the store is drool-worthy (I can attest - I touched them all) , without, however, being over the top. Her selections reveal the perfect merging of high-fashion and wearability, and are already understandably flying off of the shelves.
Pamela opened the shop on August 1st, and has already made a splash (wave, tsunami, etc) in the neighborhood. Iona looks just like the high-class shops in Paris's Le Marais district, but Pamela speaks English, is willing to elaborate on designers' histories, and doesn't get annoyed when you try on stuff just to imagine for a moment what a Helmut Lang blazer could do for your life (like, I'd definitely be married, rich, and famous if I wore one every day. I'm certain.)
She's also outrageously humble. For someone as cool as herself, she's incredibly generous with her time, her energy, and her praise. I don't know if she has any idea how entrepreneurial and awesome she is, but opening a shop this outstanding in the Midwest is no easy feat.
I'm pretty sure this woman deserves her own fan club.
Not only does she know more up-and-coming brands than anyone I've ever met,
but she's unbelievably inclusive. Unlike many "in the know" individuals, she didn't once make me feel ashamed or excluded - despite my humble origins.
Contrastingly, she somehow managed to make dorky me feel like a mini little celeb.
Plus, did I mention I got to try on a Helmut Lang blazer?
'Cause I got to try on a Helmut Lang blazer.
Also, I now live one block from the shop.
Food was nice while it lasted.
