Who comes from fashionable parents?
You?
Well aren't we special.
I, contrastingly, sprung from a woodsy hunter man who would probably (definitely) like to live off of the squirrels in our backyard,
and a mother who I'm fairly certain is currently wearing the pants in which she birthed me.

On that note: I'm not ashamed of them.
In fact, I'm relatively thankful for the fact that I was given the leeway to develop my own . . . interesting, sense of style.

Which is why I thought that today I'd attempt to channel their inner fashionista/os in my outfit creations.
See - I've been trying this thing where I draw inspiration from random sources in an attempt to not copy other bloggers. It's not really working, because irony is, most of my sources are unintentionally ironic - and irony is in, so . . . I fail.
See: my grandfather, the high school janitor, Baby Spice, Fresh Prince era Will Smith, etc, etc.

Anyhoo - it's worth a shot.
So let's begin with my father, who, as aforementioned, enjoys the woods, going hiking in abandoned fields, eating self-harvested meat, and not wearing color.
As such, above pants are honestly too flamboyant for his taste, but the plaid itself is quite characteristic - so I gave it a go.
Now onto my dear mother:
who, obviously wouldn't wear these shoes (she might quite possibly rather die), but after staying so darn true-to-self with the lovely nightgown, I had to compensate somehow.
She would, however, approve of the accessories of choice. My mom and her cameos and Claddagh rings . . . sheesh. And she's stubbornly worn the same tiny gold hoops for 39 years.
Yeah, my mom's 39. SO WHAT?
What would your 'rents wear?
Cheers.

Those shoes with that nightgown- ooh work it, girl.
ReplyDeleteFrom the pictures I've seen of the 90's, my mom always wore loose jumpsuits, but the polished type, if you know what I mean. With her black curly hair, red lipstick, gold hoops, and flat pointy toe flats. I was obsessed with her taste. She was a blazer fanatic, shoulder pads and all. Her style was pretty masculine, and I think I sort of inherited that from her. She loved her chunky heeled combat boots and loose tees. I wish she kept those clothes.
Now all she wears is from Ann Taylor LOFT. 80% of her clothes are from there- pretty business casual. Sort of boring but a lot of her finds from other stores completely surprise me.
