Do you really love a celebrity because she's "soo down to earth" and "relatable"?
or does that actually just make you hate her a little bit more,
knowing that you could very well be, but aren't, the same?

Do you really "crave" a steaming black cup of coffee in the morning, or is the blended chocolate chai tea much more appealing in your less sophisticated reality?
Do you really wear perfect seamless nude underwear on a daily basis, or did you go commando at the last second after realizing that your Superman undies didn't quite mesh with your semi-sheer silk skirt?
Do you really think those 4-inch metallic [insert @brandname] heels are "super comfy!", or would you rather cut your feet off than bear another minute in them?

Do you really eat that entire pint of Ben & Jerry's Go Phish after Instagramming it in the grocery store, or did you put it back down and leave, wondering what it would really feel like to be an actual rom com heroine?

Do you really drool uncontrollably when Ryan Gosling takes off his shirt,
or is he actually kind of an awkward specimen of a man?

(if you realize this and still drool, though, I'm more OK with that)
Do you really "devour" that entire plate at your epic Sunday New York brunch,
or did you actually split it between your five tiny Instagram-taggable friends and take doggy bags to go?
Do you really wake up with your Vogue, a designer pair of sunglasses, and a cup of coffee in hand every single morning,
or did you actually just spend 5 zombie minutes re-reading the list of ingredients on the back of your Kashi Go Lean box?

Do you really feel comfortable asking your friends to "take a picture of me doing this!!!" in social situations just to document that you have a life outside of your computer,
or does doing so actually make you want to crawl under an inaccessible rock and die?

Do you really think you're as cool
as you hope that you look?
Just some things I've been thinking about over the past couple of days while
watching people live lives I "wish" I lived.
Cheers.
Love this. I can't walk in heels so I rock sneakers now like it's my business. I tried to be cool and wear wedges and then I realized I'd much rather be comfortable. And unfortunately I do not have the will power to NOT eat the whole french toast. It's an issue. The act of trying to be cool is just too much for me to keep up anymore. Hells to the yea to frizz and hating magazines
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious and thought-provoking at the same time. {I just can't be serious looking at those images!} The issue I have here, though, is that you classify the second option as a negative thing. My mantra is "Do what you will but be proud of it!" Nothing wrong with wearing heels or flats, just be transparent about it, i.e. I wear heels, and sometimes they hurt like freakin heck, but I just suck it up. But you best believe it that the millisecond I get home, they are flying off. You feel me?
ReplyDeleteThank you for another entertaining post. I just may refer to it in one of my future articles. XOXO

THanks, Norbs. Means a lot :) <3
DeleteHilarious & spot on as usual. You are a gifted writer, Gabby, and very thought provoking. I think all these issues are so relevant to the age we live in & those of us who want to live somewhat transparently, continue to deliberate these as we navigate all this crazy social media.
