They're a thing.
I promise.
Why, though, is another story. Or question.
You're right - It's really more of a question.
Because coats are really big right now.
And I mean like,
literally.
They're giant.

But why? Why all of a sudden have we given up on tailored figure flattery in favor of something more - dare I say it- frumpy?
Are we once again yearning for that special sense of femininity that comes from wearing a men's silhouette over a female frame? (see: men's dress shirt over underwear, long blazer over skinny jeans, etc)
Are we fighting back against the decades-old notion that the thinness our figures needs to be the focus of fashion?
Are the Olsen twins finally entirely determining our idea of cool?
I, myself, simply feel that a giant coat over a more fitted outfit gives me a special air of effortlessness. There's something intangibly awesome about swathing yourself in this strange hint of homeless person aesthetic.

It also helps if you don't wash your hair.
Or shave.
Ever.

So- boxy coats . . . Why?
Cheers.

i'm convinced that anything we can do to make our clothes feel like we're wearing pyjamas makes them that much better. i love your oversized coat. i've always loved a good oversized cardi, or a blazer.....that delicate balance of effortless cool and tailored chic. yeah. and added bonus, it feels as comfy as your jammies. love your shoes. but, are your toes freezing???

I have no answers. But I do know that two oversized coats are sitting (hanging) in my wardrobe right now, recent purchases, despite the fact that it's summer in Australia right now and I barely want to wear clothes, let alone coats.
