Friends!
Lovers!
Mom!
I've got a riddle:
Who wakes up every morning and looks up at her wardrobe and says to herself:
Who wakes up every morning and looks up at her wardrobe and says to herself:
I don't care!
THIS GIRL.
And about what?
And about what?
About anything!
That's right folks- not caring is the new caring but like, I guess don't really care.
Not that caring was ever really cool, but I think that looking good was.
I.e., this:
Nowadays, though, it seems like - at least so far as fashion/blogger world is concerned - you can look like crap and still be cool.
Obviously, crap is relative, but I still find it funny that "cool" now involves either taking hopelessly uncool items and repurposing them, or taking expensive and luxurious items and making them look like...well, crap.
Stoner hoodie?
Don't care.
Sneaks w/ silk?
Don't care.
Clothes don't fit?
Je ne m'inquiète pas.
Lookin' a little bit homeless?
Do not curr.
Truth be told, I kind of wanted to hate this trend.
I feel as if, in execution, it's just a little bit too hipster for my liking. I mean, I like a nice white lace dress just as much as the next girl.
But over the course of the last couple of months, I've come to find it extremely liberating.
As someone who's never had clothes fit her perfectly (aka: as a woman), I'd sometimes find myself passing on items that I loved, but that didn't flatter me just right.
Now, I buy and wear them anyways.
It actually gives me an extreme sense of self confidence to know that I can wear WHATEVER I want without feeling like a slave to my physical form.
I'm a bit sorry that it took a trend to ignite this fire,
but with an end result this liberating,
I can't complain.
Has anyone else noticed this "trend"?
Any one else internalize it like I have?
