Madeline, another local blogger (sequinandchic.com), sent me some interview questions yesterday - one of which was "What is something that you will wear no matter how much it's considered “out”?
After pondering this over for a solid 3.4 seconds, and acknowledging the fact that a good majority of the things I wear are probably "out" anyways, I sucked it up and landed upon "leather".
I know, I know.
I love cows.
But I also happen to love the way that their buttery harvested skin feels against that of my own so...
I'm probably going to hell. #burymeinleatherboots #kidding #not
Aside from my slightly disturbing answer, though, it was a killer question, right? I mean, it's really got me thinking all the way back as far as I can remember.

What have I always loved. What have I always been drawn to?
Well, aside from bad-smelling cheese and Reese's products, that doesn't leave a whole lot.
I mean, I used to love stirrup pants. And giant moose on my clothes. And crimped hair. And Jamaican cornrows. And patchwork bellbottoms and pink crop tops and sparkly purple eyeshadow and boy's basketball shorts and so on and so on and on and on and on.
But through it all, what have I always loved?
I've always loved leather.
Specifically brown leather. Worn, tattered, slightly-water-damaged-with-a-hint-of-mud brown leather.

Maybe it came from the fact that my dad always had chunky leather boots.
Or maybe it was Pocahontas's suede dress.
Or maybe, as my mom so kindly implied, it's really just because - wait for it - "it's expensive" (really mom? really?)
I honestly don't know.
What I do know, is that no matter what direction my personal style takes, there's never been a phase during which I wouldn't throw on a pair of leather boots or a great tarnished leather satchel on top of it all. Sports luxe, masculine, hippie-ish - all of my style phases have warranted the addition of a great leather piece.
Even when I'm wearing a vintage wedding dress.

Cheers.
