Look Sharp, Sconnie - Midwestern Fashion Nerd, Chronic Over-thinker

why I still like fashion shows (CASE IN POINT: BCBG MAX AZRIA)

Say what you will about the end of the fashion show era-
I still kinda like 'em.
Sure,
all the front row/elitist/ego crap gets super obnoxious,
and yes,
you can live-stream them online from the comfort of your own high-waisted underwear.

But at the risk of sounding annoying or pretentious or Cathy Horn-ish,
it's just not the same.
This oft-declared perspective is definitely not the one I held three years ago, when the closest thing I'd seen to a fashion show was Kelly Kapoor's insistence on Pam's "fashion show at lunch!".

Nowadays, however having very directly compared what I've seen come down the runway to that which I've been able to summon via the webz from my bed, it's become very clear to me that the experiences are worlds apart.

Thursday's BCBG Max Azria show is the perfect example.
Aside from the whole celeb halo factor that goes along with having models, bloggers, and "real" celebs lining the front row,
there are legit reasons that what I saw in person yesterday trumped what I followed up with on Style.com

1. The Clothing

Believe it or not; Clothes look better in 3-D.
Especially yesterday's BCBGMaxazria collection.
The angles, the asymmetry, the draping, the whispy textures and contoured edges, the layering, the belting-
everything that I loved about the show- and none of it come through on Style.com.
Which is CRAZY- right??

What is this strategy? Make it look good for the "influencers", and then have the influencers convince everyone else of how good it actually looked?

That's a healthy democracy.

2. The Music

I'm totally burying the lead here when I say that BCBG's music KILLED IT.

Mid show, the beats slowed to an acoustic (yet amply loud) rendition of I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles),
our generation's anthem to optimism.

Suddenly, the dynamic in the room shifted, these b, almost ethereally elegant pieces drifted down the runway, and all the psychotic comparing and ego trumping that is so endemic to fashion just slowly dissipated- leaving only
It was very surreal.
Almost ideal.

3. The Vibe

Mentioned above, but wholly intangible and therefore, nearly inexplicable.
There's an energy to the combination of clothing, shoes, accessories, music, talent, beauty, and raw passion
that is almost magic.
Whether you're in the front row,
or the very last.
So get thee to a fashion show!
And if you can't,
put one on yourself.
I do.
Daily.

:-P

Cheers.
