My head's so deep in the proverbial gutter, that I can't really tell if this post is obvious and redundant or not.

Hopefully, it is, and we can all acknowledge and move past the fact that the end of an era has come and gone, and the only last threads that are being desperately clinged to are the ones claimed by those whose careers still stand to benefit from what milk can be gleaned from an otherwise useless venture.
I'm talking about Street Style, of course, and how it's annoying,
or whatever.

But no need to beat a dead horse.
We're all aware that the same 5 people showed up on Tommy Ton's slide show 15 times.
It's pretty clear. It doesn't take a genius.
What does take a genius, however, is to uncover is WHY ???
WHY haven't we moved onto the next fashion week phenomenon?
WHY are se still obsessed with Leadra's high-waisted pants and floor-length coats?
WHY are the same 10 people being used as signposts of fashion week and overshadowing the entirety of the week itself?

I wish I were more of an idea person and less of a questioner.
Alas.
Overthink, underperform.
It's what I'm good at.
Anyhow. IN CONCLUSION:
NYFW, LFW, and now MFW, have showed me is just how sad the state of authenticity has truly become.
I mean, the pictures are cute but,
are they new?
I know it's fashion. And fashion is, inherently, cliquey and exclusive - but...
Come on.
Where'd all the cool people go?
hey girl...i'm with you. it's annoying. there are really cool people out there, but we don't get to see them anymore. we only get to see the ones that are dressed by others (i mean gifted all these lovely things...ahem, sponsored almost)....where is the real interpretation of style from real people???
ReplyDeletehere's a post i wrote about this topic myself...last may: http://www.imanorbyah.com/2014/05/can-we-really-call-it-street-style.html
Hey Gab,
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to know. What do you think the next big thing in fashion week will be?
I agree that it's annoying to see the same people over and over again (I won't name names), but honestly there's one part of street style these days that is so irritating to me. IT ISN'T WEARABLE. One of the things that I used to love about street style was how authentic it was. Sure, it was probably a bit contrived as we are always aware that people are going to see what we are wearing, but street style used to be so cool because it was what someone actually wore out and about. These days, street style is very posed, very planned, and lacks the genuine.
Anyway, I'm not sure what the next big thing will be. I would imagine that it'll relate to the internet/social media, but I don't have many guesses for what's coming up next.
Take care,
Kayla xx
PS I forgot to say that the images you used made me giggle. ;) Especially gutter boy & the Ashleys. #90skid
